Come on Down to Houston !

48th Annual AJL Conference            

June 16 – 19, 2013 

You may register for the conference in one of two ways:

Registration is now $525.  This includes all sessions, plenary sessions, 3 breakfasts, 2 lunches, welcome to Texas BBQ, reception and banquet dinner.

Stay at the Hilton Houston Post Oak Hotel in the Galleria area of Houston.

Special room rate is $149 per room, single or double, plus tax.  You can now make your HOTEL RESERVATIONS online.

PRELIMINARY PROGRAM

Program Highlights: Rabbi Judith Abrams, author of The Other Talmud: The Yerushalmi;  Dr. Bryan E. Stone, author of The Chosen Folks: Jews on the Frontier of Texas, Sydney Taylor Award Winning authors, Library of Congress cataloging, National Library of Israel, topics such as film collections, archives, ebooks, genealogy, school library web apps, social media, catalog backlog reduction, and more. 

AJL Optional Tours take place on Wednesday, June 19 following the conference from 1:30 until 5:30.

Jewish Houston.  Visit the earliest neighborhoods, synagogues and cemeteries of the Jewish population in Houston, led by a knowledgeable local guide. The history of the Jews in Houston will be discussed as you drive through these areas. $45 (Registration reopened)

Holocaust Museum Houston and Clayton Library for Genealogical Research. Our group has been invited to personalized tours of both institutions. If time permits, a stop can be made at the Asia Society Texas Center, the first free-standing building in the U.S. designed by famed Japanese architect Yoshio Taniguchi, who designed the renovation of MoMA. $40

The Menil Collection, Rothko Chapel, and Museum of Printing History. The personal collections of John and Dominique de Menil are shown in this beautiful art museum, which includes a visit to the nearby Rothko Chapel. A drive to the Museum of Printing History follows. $40

Airport Information: Houston is served by two major airports: IAH- Bush Intercontinental Airport,about 35 minutes from the hotel, and HOU- Hobby Airport, about 30 minutes. Major hub for United into IAH and Southwest into HOU.
