Jewish Book Carnival HQ
Welcome to the headquarters of the Jewish Book Carnival, a monthly event where bloggers who blog about Jewish books can meet, read and comment on each others’ posts.
The carnival was started by Heidi Rabinowitz and Marie Cloutier to build community among bloggers and blogs who feature Jewish books. It runs every month on the 15th (or close to the 15th when it falls on Shabbat).
The default location for the Carnival will be here at People of the Books but we encourage you to contact Heidi at [email protected] if you would like to host the Carnival on your blog.
Feel free to download and save the logo, and use it on your blog posts or sidebar. Please do not link directly to the picture.
The Jewish Book Carnival has a GoodReads page, where we host discussions and more. Whether or not you’re participating, we hope you’ll stop by, join and take part!
The purposes of the Jewish Book Carnival are:
- To build community among bloggers who feature Jewish books on their blogs
- To promote Jewish reading, and fields supporting this reading such as publishing and library services
Appropriate content for Jewish Book Carnival submissions includes:
- Reviews of Jewish books
- Interviews with authors, illustrators, editors, publishers, librarians, etc. about Jewish literature
- Reporting on Jewish literary events (or the Jewish angle at non-Jewish events)
- Reflective essays related to Jewish literature, which may include reflections on the process of creating a specific title (this is the one instance in which authors/publshers might discuss one of their own books, in a meaningful and non-commercial way that serves a larger goal)
While the Carnival is open to participation by blogging authors and publishers, we wish to avoid “shameless commerce” (as NPR's Car Talk puts it), and we ask that authors and publishers not submit posts directly promoting their own products.
